Offering recurring revenue business models and strong margins, SaaS companies have remained attractive to both strategic buyers and private equity investors.  2016 M&A dollar volume saw a substantial increase over the prior year as the result of several multi-billion dollar acquisitions and M&A deal volume remains near its five-year high.

The Healthcare Information Technology (HCIT) sector continued to be extremely attractive for mergers and acquisitions in 2016 with average EV/EBITDA multiples of 23.9x and average EV/Revenue multiples of 5.3x.

SaaS and Cloud companies continue to innovate at a rapid pace and are reshaping the enterprise software and communications landscape.  Their recurring revenue business models are very attractive to both public company and private equity investors.  M&A in this segment remains very robust and we are now starting to see consolidation on a more massive scale as 10 public company targets were acquired by larger players in Q3 alone.

Since 2014, nearly $17 billion has been invested in the Healthcare IT sector according to StartUp Health.  Now, many of those startups will be returning to market to raise additional funds or seek an exit.  This bodes well for M&A activity and should buoy both transaction volume and valuations.
