Leading middle market investment banking firm acknowledged by industry for top tier professionals and unique transaction outcomes

Boston, MA - Capstone Headwaters, a leading middle market investment banking firm, was recognized at the Global M&A Network’s 12th Annual Americas M&A Atlas Awards celebrations, held virtually this year on November 16 and 17, 2020.  The Awards recognize the achievements of successful dealmakers, outstanding firms and the best-growth delivering transactions.

Capstone was honored to be the recipient of a total of four awards, including the following two transaction-specific awards and two leadership awards:

  1. U.S. Private Equity Acquisition Deal of the Year, Large Middle Markets, having advised Vigor Industrial on its acquisition by The Carlyle Group to Merge with MHI Holdings. Based in Portland, OR, Vigor Industrial specializes in shipbuilding, ship repair, and the fabrication of heavy, complex projects in support of energy generation, U.S. infrastructure and national defense. The transaction, closed in October 2019, was led by the firm’s President, Phil Seefried and Managing Director, Burke Smith, who leads the firm’s Transportation & Logistics Team. “We are proud to have played a role in this complex and transformative transaction which dramatically shifted the market dynamic in the critical marine services sector,” said Burke Smith, Managing Director at Capstone.

  2. Corporate Deal of the Year, Middle Markets, having advised BankTel on its acquisition by AvidXchange. Based in Columbus, MS, BankTEL is a provider of A/P invoice & accounting automation solutions to more than 20 percent of banks across the U.S. The transaction, closed in September 2019, was led by David Francione, a Managing Director in our Financial Technology practice. “It is with our distinct pleasure to accept this award from the Global M&A Network.  On behalf of our team and our client BankTEL, we could not have been more pleased with the outcome and fit with AvidXchange,” commented Francione.  “BankTEL’s 20-year history of providing B2B invoicing and payments solutions to the country’s banks allowed it to become the solution of choice for Avid as it expands its financial services vertical. Avid’s unique technology capabilities allowed it to see a path forward to be able to monetize the billions of invoice payments flowing through BankTEL’s platform.”

  3. Americas M&A Investment Banker of the Year, was awarded to Capstone founding member and Head of M&A, Jacob Voorhees. “It was an honor to be named M&A Banker of the Year at the M&A Atlas Awards,” commented Voorhees.  “However, no individual receives this award on their own.  The organization and the team supporting them is the primary driver for success, and I look forward to many more awards for my team and my firm in the future.” M&A Atlas Leader and Dealmaker Awards are presented to seasoned professionals for successfully executing growth transactional deals, expertise in identifying value-creating transactions, participating in award-winning deals and a consistent record of getting deals done.

  4. America’s Rising Star Dealmaker, was awarded to Yogi Punjabi, an experienced, young Director on Capstone Headwater’s Consumer & Retail Team.  This award recognizes brilliant and exceptional young dealmakers from the private equity and growth investors, lending, M&A and restructuring transactional communities for their achievements, dedication, and talents for closing value creating transactions. “It is an honor to be recognized as a Rising Star Dealmaker among a select group of highly-accomplished M&A professionals.  At Capstone Headwaters, we are deeply passionate about and committed to creating the most successful outcomes for our clients, and I am further inspired through each transaction.  I look forward to helping our clients achieve their goals for many years to come,” commented Yogi Punjabi, Director at Capstone.
