M&A activity in the natural and organic products industry increased further in 2012, fueled by healthy growth in the sector and reflected in several large industry transactions. While landmark deals dominate the headlines, most of the activity in this fragmented industry occurs in the middle market, where large consumer products companies are looking to add new products and successful brands for access to this high growth sector. Most natural and organic products are part of the consumer staples sector which, combined with vitamins & nutritional supplements, reported a record 449 closed transactions in 2012, exceeding pre‐recession numbers for the first time and continuing the trend of year‐over‐year increases.
