With 195 US transactions announced or closed in the Chemicals industry during 2017, volume dipped slightly below the record level from 2016, but surpassed that of 2015. Public companies continue to maintain a stronghold on deal share and accounted for 70.2% of deals in 2017 and 78.8% of deals through March 2018.  Throughout 2015 and 2016, there were multiple prominent mega deals that drove total and average deal value to unprecedented heights (average of $145.8 million in 2015 and $231.1 million in 2016, according to Deloitte).1  As the number of mega deals subsided during 2017, deal value leveled to an average of $80.4 million and valuation of 8.7x EBTIDA.
